The Devon Brinsmeads decade by decade  

1820-1830

 

 George IV inherited the throne from his blind and deranged father in 1820 and reigned throughout the decade. He died in 1830 following a series of strokes.

London's cultural life takes on new vigour as the Royal Academy of Music is established in 1823, the British Museum is extensively rebuilt in 1823 and the National Gallery is established in 1824.

 

Buckingham Palace is reconstructed by architect John Nash in 1825 on a commission from George IV, although it was not occupied as a Royal Palace until Queen Victoria's succession in 1837.
